" Webb's First Deep Field " is the name for the first published image from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) after its launch from Earth in December 2021. The image, taken with a near-infrared camera, spans 4.6 billion light-years distant galaxy cluster SMACS 0723 in the constellation of the Flying Fish and was formed in more than 12 hours as a composite of several images taken at different wavelengths.
At the same time, the JWST was able to capture the light from even more distant galaxies, which has made the incredible journey of 13.1 billion years and was therefore emitted "only" 700 million years after the Big Bang.
